Reviews For No Bed of Roses
Wow, a few more surprises here! I love how you bring in new layers into the story all the time and the Smelting's headmaster being a squib is certainly a new one on me. The development of the characters is going on beautifully and Harry being out of it has allowed a lot of backstories to develop. Thank you so much for continuing to update your excellent story.
A very reflective interesting chapter thank you. Interesting how you make Harry such an important central character for two chapters despite the fact that he has not been awake during them. It will be interesting to see his reaction to what has happened.
I made an account just to comment. I love this story but want to slap these characters! What the hell is wrong with Lucius, Narcissa, Regulus, Minerva, and everyone else that knew about Holly and Harry’s relationship??? What kind of foolish and immature bullshit were they playing at by not telling Severus the truth??? The first moment it was discovered Lucius should have gone to Snape and told him. If Snape was angry Lucius should have told him to grow the fuck up and care more about Holly than his own pettiness. Instead they let everything fester and get messier. Holly was hurt because she was unsure if she’d get to see Harry anytime soon. This could have been resolved weeks ago. She resisted Snape because he was mean to Harry, but this could have been addressed by Harry, Holly, and Snape all talking. Snape is going to be hurt when he realizes that Holly was just using him to get to Harry. Draco is hurt because he doesn’t understand why Holly chose Harry (a complete stranger) over him even though he apologized. Harry and Draco are going to have to work together in the war but their relationship is now filled with more resentment. Snape just put a kid’s head through a damn window because his alleged family didn’t tell him the truth. And this bullshit of ‘Snape will be mad so let’s not tell him’ makes no sense because obviously Snape finds out and he does it during school- where he can and does hurt children. Now how the fuck is Holly supposed to feel about Snape after seeing him abuse Potter? I swear- the adults in this story need their asses kicked. This is some high school drama. They better get their shit together!
Someone should tell Holly that Severus worked himself into exhaustion to save Harry. Would wizardly law really allow Regulas to take Holly away from her father? It's nice that Sirius realizes now he was cruel, but will he be willing to make any amends? Author's Response: I'm not sure Holly would care that Snape worked himself to exhaustion to save Harry when it's Snape who seemed to have encouraged Draco to continue hating Harry in the first place. As to whether Regulus could have Holly taken away, may be the law would help him, maybe it wouldn't. The threat is enough for Snape because even if legally Regulus can't, forcing the issue would create more resentment and Snape knows that very well. Holly would hate Snape forever if Harry left and Snape tried to stop her.
Wonderful chapter thank you for updating so promptly. I'm hoping Hermione is coming around to the Holly situation and is thinking about her attitude. Dudley has become a real character in this story, thank you for making him and Regulus such interesting characters. Also Sirius is developing into a very rounded interesting character, thinking about his past behaviour. Thank you so much Author's Response: Thank you. This does seem to be a turning point for a lot of characters where they will all (hopefully) see the error of their ways
I like that all the adults, who are all failures as guardians, end up having to reflect on their own actions this chapter. Also Dudley. I acknowledge that other characters also had some self reflection, but I'm mostly focused on the adults and Dudley. Regulus's line about the Malfoys raising a Death Eater was so satisfying. Hell, literally everything he said in that call out was satisfying to hear. So cathartic. Speaking of cathartic, Dudley's breakdown in front of Sirius was very pleasing to read as well. It made me feel proud of the boy. It's one thing to try and be a better person, but having to confront a reflection of your harm to others (as I'm sure seeing Draco attack Harry was) is incredibly difficult. Lastly, I laughed while reading about Dudley punching Draco. I just thought the imagine of him giving Draco a 5 piece combo was hilarious. 😂 Author's Response: There's so much reflection going on right now and so much more needed. Regulus certainly didn't pull his punches with any of them and it's something they all needed to hear. Whether they will actually listen to it is the question. Dudley pounding on Draco's face was certainly a well deserved beating.
Author's Response: I understand what you mean. Snape certainly needs a lot of therapy before he can have a place in his daughter's life. Hopefully the redemption coming is believable.
Author's Response: Hopefully the consequences live up to expectations. I'm glad my next chapter is an eager after work event 😁 |
