this was a nice start. :) It makes a nice background for the rest of the story, especially through showing Severus' feelings and thoughts. I really liked how he was allowed to hold Harry. I noticed that his personality seems to have changed with his asking his house elf with something. :) I'm worried that his dark mark was burning, but he didn't go. Also, that Malfoy was in his home... this can't be good news. And Halloween is tomorrow! I wonder if by ignoring his dark mark, he missed information about Voldemort going after lily and James and Harry.
One thing, didn't Pettigrew have to tell Snape where the Potters lived because he was their seret keeper?
