Going with absolutely Canon!Snape, the fact that approximately 10% of abused children become abusers themselves, and his absolute obsession with Lily, this makes perfect sense. Very nice, and absolutely logical.

Oh. My. God. That is, by far, the most brilliant, beautiful, horrible, breathtaking, chilling story I have ever read. I am sitting here now with goose pimples running up and down my arms, my stomach clenched so tightly I feel vaguely ill. That was... just, wow.
