The angst in this chapter is perfect — poignant and compelling, as Harry reveals his fear and frustration, alternating between fight (when he’s bold and mouthy) and flight (when he runs). You’ve captured Severus so beautifully too, as he remains skeptical of prince Potter, but is also starting to see the realities before him. Thanks so much for this beautiful chapter.

I love your vivid descriptions of camp life and all the fun it has to offer in the outdoors. I like Rhys as a character, and think that your line about Harry not used to seeing Muggles so happy was hilarious. Great chapter end as well — of course, Severus, with his keen observational skills, would see Harry at camp despite Harry’s best efforts.
This story feels deeply real and moving. It may be the reality of police responding to a domestic disturbance, the harsh circumstances of the boys home, and the psychologists around every bend. But it feels real, and deeply so. It’s a masterpiece in this genre.
This is one of my all-time favorite stories, and I’ve re-read it countless times. I love this opening chapter. It feels realistic and paints an excellent picture of Harry’s current plight. I’ve always wondered why Harry was never given an emergency portkey or immediate way to contact the wizarding world, in the event of an emergency. Thanks for the amazing chapter.
